In commemoration of the 11th Inception Day of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), a youth football match was organized on August 30, at the Local Ground, Meluri.
According to a DIPR report, deputy commissioner of Meluri, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, graced the occasion as the special guest. In his address, the DC expressed deep appreciation to NHIDCL for its continued efforts in enhancing road connectivity in interior and far-flung areas, including Meluri District. He encouraged the young players to put forth their best performance and carry forward the spirit of sportsmanship.
The participating teams were Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Meluri; S. Pethury School, Meluri; St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Meluri and Government Higher Secondary School Meluri.
The final match saw an exciting contest between Government Higher Secondary School, Meluri and Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Meluri. With a commanding performance, Government Higher Secondary School emerged as the champion, defeating their opponents 5–0.
The winning team was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of ₹10,000, while the runners-up received ₹5,000. All participating teams were also presented with a consolation prize of ₹3,000 each in recognition of their spirited participation.
Akoru Thupitor from Government Higher Secondary School, Meluri was awarded the best player of the tournament.
