Along with the rest of the world, the “Menstrual Hygiene Day” was also observed at Longleng and Tuensang under the 2024 theme, “Together for a Period Friendly World”, Tuesday.
The day was marked by awareness programmes about the importance of good menstrual hygiene management, asserting the significance of access to menstrual products to all, and breaking silence, stigmas and taboo associated with menstruation.
Longleng: Longleng district observed “Menstrual Hygiene Day” with girl students of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya Residential Hostel, Longleng. The programme was aimed to create awareness of the key adolescent health issues which, in turn, will instil positive behaviour in the adolescent.
At the programme, Medical Officer (MO) Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), Dr. Suyimzenla, taught the students about menstrual hygiene and cautioned them against the use of unscientific and unhygienic materials during their menstruation.
Awareness of the importance of menstruation, menstrual hygiene, and use of proper disposal of sanitary products were highlighted, which was followed by the distribution of sanitary pads.
Tuensang: District Health Society (DHS) Tuensang observed “Menstrual Hygiene Day” at Wongtsuwung Government Middle School (GMS) Tuensang Town.
During the programme, resource person, General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) of Urban Primary Health Centre (IPHC) Naongsenti, emphasised the importance of menstrual hygiene.
She explained to the students about maintaining personal hygiene, proper menstrual hygiene material, and how to use of napkin during menstruation. She also advised them to drink enough water to avoid bloating/cramping during period. The medical team distributed sanitary pads to all the students who participated in the programme.
