Phek district observed the “Menstrual Hygiene Day” under the 2024 theme, “Period Friendly World” on May 29 at Government High School (GHS) Phek Town. A press release by National Health Mission (NHM) Phek informed that the programme carried out by Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) team aimed to promote awareness and educate people on menstrual health.
The RBSK team comprised of Dr. Avono Medoze, General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), Vekupolu and school health program coordinator, Kotsho.
During the programme, Dr. Avono emphasised the importance of menstrual hygiene and the need to eradicate the stigma associated with menstruation. She highlighted the crucial role of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene for overall health and well-being.
Dr. Avono also shared the common myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation. She encouraged young female adolescents to adopt healthy practices and feel empowered to talk openly about their experiences.
During the discussion, doubts raised by the students were explained. The team also distributed sanitary pads to all the adolescent girls and prizes were also awarded to those participants who actively participated in the programme.
