Merangkong MPM flays Atem, Raising remarks against Jamir

DIMAPUR, OCT 3 (NPN): Medemsanger Putu Menden (MPM) of Merangkong village has strongly condemned statements made by NSCN (I-M) leaders VS Atem and RH Raising against former chief minister and former governor Dr SC Jamir, saying freedom of expression should be respected, particularly at a time when the Naga people were seeking reconciliation, peace and unity.
In a press release, MPM secretary Temjennungsang said every citizen had the right to freedom of expression under Naga custom and that no one had the right to curb or deprive another person of that right.
MPM said it was unfortunate that, at a time when the Naga people were seeking reconciliation, peace, unity and a political solution, the two leaders were making “divisive statements” against a fellow Naga instead of working towards unity.
It said the inherent rights of every Naga, irrespective of social status, should be respected and upheld.
“The time is now ripe to cultivate and harbour goodwill and respect” to achieve peace and unity and move forward towards a solution as one people, MPM said.
MPM expressed solidarity with statements issued by the Ao Senden and Ungma Senso Mungdang in the interest of the Naga people.
It also expressed hope that wisdom would prevail in resolving the matter and that the larger goal of the Naga people would not be diluted by the controversy.
