Merapani Seed Farm belong to Nagaland: Achumbemo

MLA of 40 Bhandari A/C, Achumbemo Kikon on April 16, 2025 visited Nagaland State government owned Merapani Seed Farm, to take stock of the ongoing situation arising out of the protest by the labourers and immigrants, who have started claiming the seed farm.

The MLA during his visit categorically said that Merapani Seed Farm measuring 1300 acres belonged to Nagaland government and cautioned “illegal immigrants from Assam and the tenants” that they have no right “whatsoever to claim even an inch of the seed farm”. To protect the farm from illegal encroachers, Achumbemo demanded the Agriculture department to fence the entire stretch of the Merapani Seed farm.

He also urged the department to immediately cancel the permit/ lease issued to the locals as well as the non-locals and reclaim the entire farm and convert it into a rice bowl for the State.

Achumbemo was accompanied by representatives from Lotha Lower Range Public Organisation (LLPRO) and Lotha Lower Range Students’ Union (LLRSU), 7th NAP Officers and police personally and Border Magistrate.
