Message of Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Nagaland on 77th R-Day

My dear citizens of Nagaland,
On this proud and historic occasion of the 77th Republic Day of our great nation, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to each one of you. Today, we commemorate the day when India adopted her Constitution in 1950 and resolved to walk the path of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, laying the foundations of the world’s largest and most vibrant democracy.
Republic Day is not merely a celebration of our past; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to the ideals that define our Nation. As we gather amidst the splendor of parades, cultural showcases, and tributes to our freedom fighters and brave soldiers, we are reminded that India’s journey is one of resilience, unity, and unyielding faith in democratic values.
This year’s celebrations resonate deeply with two powerful national themes — “Vande Mataram”, marking the 150th Anniversary of our national song, and “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, reflecting our resolve for a Self-Reliant, Prosperous, and Technologically Empowered India. Together, these themes beautifully connect our glorious heritage with our bold aspirations for the future.
As we celebrate 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, our national song, we reaffirm our love for the soil that nurtures us, the people who define us, and the Constitution that binds us together as one nation. In Nagaland too, our diverse tribes, cultures, and traditions reflect this same spirit of unity in diversity — the very essence of India. At the same time, the theme of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” calls upon us to transform patriotic emotion into purposeful action. A self-reliant India is not one that stands alone, but one that stands strong — confident in its abilities, innovative in its approach, and compassionate in its growth. It envisions an India where prosperity is inclusive, opportunities are equitable, and development reaches the last mile.
As India marches steadily towards her centenary of independence in 2047, we need to focus on green growth, India’s commitment to renewable energy, climate action, and sustainable development reflects our reverence for nature and our duty to future generations. Nagaland, blessed with rich biodiversity and pristine landscapes, has a vital role to play in preserving ecological balance while pursuing development that is both people-centric and environment-friendly.
Digital India is transforming governance, education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. Technology is bridging distances, empowering citizens, and enabling transparent and efficient service delivery. In Nagaland, digital connectivity is opening new pathways for youth, artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs, enabling them to integrate with national and global markets.
Women’s power, Nari Shakti, lies at the heart of India’s growth story. From science and defence to entrepreneurship and governance, Indian women are redefining leadership and excellence. In Nagaland, our women have long been custodians of culture, economy, and social harmony. As we strengthen education, skill development, and opportunities for women, we strengthen the nation itself.
Equally important is the transformation of our villages through Rural Development. A prosperous India must rise from prosperous villages. Infrastructure development, agricultural reforms, digital services, and entrepreneurship in rural areas are unlocking new opportunities and improving the quality of life for millions. In Nagaland, empowering rural communities with skills, markets, and modern infrastructure remains a key priority.
Above all, the future of India rests in the hands of our Youth — innovative, energetic, and aspirational. Youth innovation in science, technology, startups, sports, arts, and public service is driving the momentum of a New India. Our young people are not only job seekers but job creators, problem solvers, and nation builders. It is our collective duty to nurture their talents and provide platforms for them to realize their full potential.
Friends, as we celebrate Republic Day with colourful parades and vibrant cultural performances, we also celebrate the living spirit of our Constitution — a document that embodies the wisdom of our freedom struggle and the aspirations of generations. It guarantees not only rights but also responsibilities — to uphold unity, dignity, harmony, and mutual respect.
In Nagaland, our unique traditions, customary laws, and cultural heritage blend seamlessly with the constitutional framework of India, strengthening the fabric of our federal democracy. Our diversity is not a challenge but a strength — a testament to the inclusive and pluralistic soul of our nation. The vision of India @2047 is bold and inspiring — an India that is developed, democratic, dynamic, and compassionate. It envisions a nation where no citizen is left behind, where innovation drives progress, where growth is sustainable, and where governance is transparent and responsive. It is a vision rooted in self-confidence, powered by knowledge, and guided by constitutional values.
As we reflect on the journey of our Republic over the past seven decades, we bow in gratitude to the architects of our Constitution, our freedom fighters, and all those who sacrificed for our independence and unity. Their legacy calls upon us to safeguard democracy, strengthen institutions, and uphold the rule of law with integrity and commitment. Let this Republic Day be not only a celebration but also a renewal of purpose — to work together in harmony, to respect diversity, to serve the nation with sincerity, and to place collective good above narrow interests. Let us reaffirm our pledge to build an India that is prosperous yet compassionate, powerful yet peaceful, modern yet rooted in timeless values.
On this proud occasion, I once again extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of Nagaland. May our Republic continue to flourish in strength, wisdom, and harmony.
Jai Hind!
Vande Mataram!
