Message on Indo-Naga Ceasefire Day by FGN

Beloved Naga people
On this 61st Indo-Naga Ceasefire Day, the Naga National Council and the Federal Government of Nagaland once again extended warm greetings to all our people. This day reminded us of God’s eternal love and providence throughout our history, and all glory was ascribed to Him alone.
The Nagas had never intended nor desired to engage in an armed conflict with the Government of India. Even after declaring independence on 14th August 1947, the Nagas refrained from forming a government, recognizing their physical limitations. Guided by the Naga National Council, our struggle initially followed the peaceful path of non-violence and non-cooperation.
However, India chose military force, invading Nagaland with the aim of subjugation. Compelled by circumstances, the NNC after a decade of patience established the Federal Government of Nagaland on 22nd March 1956, reluctantly entering the armed conflict- not to win militarily, but to assert that the Nagas would never surrender their God-given rights.
Against all odds, the struggle continued for ten long years. It was during this time that the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) initiated efforts for peace, leading to the historic 1964 Indo-Naga Ceasefire Agreement. This agreement became a milestone, paving the way for political dialogue at the highest levels, even reaching the Prime Minister of India. By entering into these talks, the Government of India had, in effect, acknowledged the political rights of the Nagas and recognized the Federal Government of Nagaland as a political entity.
Further more, the NNC/FGN led by Brig. (Retd.) S. Singnya, is committed to uphold the legacy of the Indo-Naga Ceasefire of 1964, and to steadfastly defend the historical and political rights of the Naga people.
On this 61st year of the Indo-Naga Ceasefire, let us rededicate ourselves to this enduring legacy-standing firm for our sovereignty, our unity, and our future as one people under God.
