Messi Tour Organiser Files Complaint Against Former Bengal Minister, Ex-DGP

Kolkata, May 19 (IANS): Satadru Dutta, the organiser of Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour Kolkata edition, has lodged a written complaint at Bidhannagar South Police Station against former state Sports Minister Aroop Biswas, Trinamool Congress councillor and Biswas’ sister-in-law Jui Biswas, and then Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar, over alleged mismanagement during the Argentine football legend’s event at Yuva Bharati Krirangan on December 13, 2025. In the complaint submitted on Monday night, Dutta accused Aroop Biswas of unlawful intrusion into restricted security zones, collapse of perimeter discipline, endangerment of Lionel Messi, and disruption of the event, seeking prompt action against all three named individuals. The complaint comes in the backdrop of widespread chaos that erupted inside Salt Lake Stadium on December 13, when spectators who had bought tickets were left disappointed after Messi left the field quickly, triggering vandalism in which chairs and bottles were thrown onto the field, gates were broken down, and damage was caused in the galleries and restrooms of the Yuva Bharati Krirangan.

Dutta, who was arrested at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on the same day as the chaos and spent 37 days in custody before being granted bail by a city court on January 19, spoke publicly for the first time after the change of government in West Bengal to directly accuse the former state minister of interfering in the flow of events and breaching Messi’s security. Following the December 13 incident, the state government had formed an investigation committee, Aroop Biswas resigned as state Sports Minister, and top IPS officers including DGP Rajeev Kumar were issued show-cause notices. Dutta’s bail application had been rejected twice before his eventual release, with the first rejection coming on December 28 after a long hearing, following which he was sent to judicial custody before finally securing bail after 37 days. The complaint marks a significant new development in the ongoing investigation into the alleged mismanagement and vandalism that marred one of the most high-profile sporting events in Kolkata’s recent history.
