Metemneo celebrated

Metemneo, the post harvest festival of the Yimchunger tribe was celebrated Friday in different parts of the State with traditional fervour and merrymaking.
In Kohima, the Yimchunger Union Kohima (YUK) organized the celebration at the official residence of parliamentary secretary, CAWD, Torechu, with minister for Roads & Bridges G. Kaito Aye as the chief guest.
Kaito in his address said the Yimchunger tribe was unique as the tribe spoke six different dialects and said this uniqueness should be an example to all Nagas on co-existence and social harmony.
Terming culture as the passport of any community, Kaito also said inviting people from other tribes to the Metemneo celebration displayed the goodwill of the community to develop better relationships.
Greeting the festive gathering, Torechu said sharing of cups of rice beer during the festival signified forgiveness.
Parliamentary secretary for I&PR, R. Tohanba also said Metemneo celebration was a time to forgive each other reconciliation of past differences.
President YUK Kekongchim delivered Metemneo greetings. The occasion was marked by presentations of cultural songs and dances.
In Dimapur, Yimchungrü Union Dimapur organized the celebration at Town hall with EAC Dimapur N. Wennyei Konyak as chief guest. Highlights of the celebration included special songs, cultural presentation and Metemneo feast.
ENPU Diphupar also celebrated Metemneo at Diphupar, which was graced by chairman MARCOFED, CL John, MLA, as chief guest and chairman, Diphupar VC, K Kapfo as guest of honour.
