Minister of Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir on Friday suggested investing in Agricultural Technology (AgTech) and Information Technology (IT) to revolutionize and benefit farmers economically, especially in hilly regions like Nagaland.
Metsubo was speaking at the 46th foundation Day of SAS: Nagaland University was held Friday, at multipurpose hall, SAS: NU as special guest. He said Nagaland being a primarily rural based with 80% of population in rural sector and crippled by poor infrastructure, geographically disadvantaged location and low entrepreneurship development, the existing scenario demanded for intensive intervention in agrarian sector.
The minister also spoke on the implementation of sustainable agriculture and technology in rural farming in hilly areas. He said one of the most challenging aspects of rural farming in hilly areas was the utilization of limited resources effectively and adapting modern technology for sustainable agricultural practices.
The minister also spoke on the impact of climate change on agriculture and the potential for agricultural technology to bolster the efforts of farmers in hilly regions. Foundation day speaker was delivered by advisor BAN and CEO window media, Dimapur, Dr Aotoshi.
The programme was chaired by pro vice chancellor prof. Akali Sema, invocation by SAS EU prayer secretary, welcome address by dean prof L Daiho, welcome song by EU choir, reminiscence (down memory lane) by 9th batch and special number by NUNTSA Medziphema campus. Alumni awards was presented by AASAS president prof. L Tongpang Longkumer and vote of thanks by SUSAS president.
