The 5th All Nagaland Dr. Imkongliba Ao Memorial Volleyball Tournament, organized by the Japukong Youth Organisation (JYO), concluded Friday at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur.
MH10 lifted the trophy after defeating Changtongya Volleyball Association.
Gracing the closing ceremony as guest of honour, deputy chairperson of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung lauded the JYO for organizing the event, describing it as a celebration of friendship, brotherhood, and unity among the Naga people.
Ezung also paid tribute to Dr. Imkongliba Ao, calling him a visionary who made immense contributions toward the progress and stability of Nagaland. She also encouraged players and youth of the state to remain resilient and consistent in all their pursuits.
“We are known as the warrior tribes, and our ancestors were resilient. Our youth must continue that legacy by being consistent not only in sports but in every field,” she said.
Ezung emphasized the importance of perseverance, urging young people to stay committed to their chosen passions rather than frequently changing their focus.
She further acknowledged the efforts of the state government, under the leadership of the chief minister, in promoting sports and building a strong sporting ecosystem across Nagaland. Encouraging the youth to seize such opportunities, she expressed optimism that they would make the state proud through dedication and hard work.
Ezung also congratulated the JYO for successfully organizing the tournament annually and noted the growing participation over the years. She suggested that similar events be extended to include women’s competitions in the future.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lanuchuba Imchen, co-host and councillor of the DMC.
