
Feast of Mary Help of Christians, the patroness of the Cathedral and the diocese of Kohima was celebrated with Most Rev. Dr. Dominic Lumon, the Archbishop of Imphal as the main celebrant of the Holy Eucharist May 26.
A press release by secretary to Bishop of Kohima, Rev. Fr. Victor Renthungo, stated that the feast was co-celebrated by Rev. Frs. Carolus Neisalhou, vicar general, C.J Jaison, principal of St. Mary’s Cathedral school, George Punnoil, Titus Zimik, Lawrence Khing and Victor Renthungo.
In his homily, Archbishop explained the significance of the feast of the ascension and said that the observance of the feast was of a feast of hope that gives the Christian Philosophy of life.
He reflected on the importance of the Eucharist and emphasized saying, “Where there is Catholic Church, the Eucharistic presence is tangibly experienced”.
Earlier, the parish priest, Fr. Carolus Neisalhou, accorded the words of welcome to sisters, parents of the first communicants and all the invited guests.
He delivered his festal greetings to all the parishioners and thanked them for their fervent expression and living of Catholic Christian faith. Special song of praise was presented by the first communicants after the reception of the Holy Communion. During the celebration 55 children received the sacrament of the first Holy Communion.
