KOHIMA, JUN 26 (NPN): Mima Village was conferred the Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyaan Award during the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, on June 26.
Advisor for Social Welfare, Wangpang Konyak, presented the award to the winners. The initiative forms part of Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, an effort of the Government of India that emphasises Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) in addressing malnutrition. The Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyaan seeks to improve nutritional status and overall well being of vulnerable populations by strengthening nutrition related services through convergence among multiple stakeholders and active community participation.
It encourages sustainable practices and innovative approaches to combat malnutrition while promoting healthy competition among Gram Panchayats.
The objective is to incentivise Anganwadi Centres to achieve benchmark standards in infrastructure, service delivery and nutritional outcomes, while motivating Gram Panchayats and Anganwadi functionaries to take proactive measures to eradicate malnutrition in their respective areas.
To qualify, Gram Panchayats must ensure Anganwadi Centres function for an average of at least 21 days per month, with a minimum of 50 registered beneficiaries and 90 per cent measurement efficiency. Additionally, at least 80 per cent of centres must have access to drinking water, while 70 per cent must have functional toilets. Under the incentive scheme, the top 1,000 qualifying Gram Panchayats across the country receive Rs. 1 lakh each.
