DIMAPUR: Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), in collaboration with Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) and district administration, conducted a Mini Legal Services Camp at Peren Town on May 16.
The inaugural programme began with invocation by Haigangbeu Hegame, youth secretary, ZBCC. Delivering the welcome address, N. Longsithung Ezung, district & sessions judge‑cum‑chairman PDLSA, highlighted the significance of Article 39(A) of the Constitution, inserted through the 42nd amendment, and extended warm welcome to dignitaries, officials and participants.
Students of the Legal Literacy Club, Peren Government College, presented a humorous and impactful skit on citizens’ rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Deputy commissioner Hiazu Meru, in his special address, stressed the need for upliftment of education, health and economy in the district, and urged departments and organisations to work tirelessly for betterment, citing the NER District SDG index.
Delivering the keynote address, NSLSA member secretary Neiko Akami, emphasised the activities undertaken by NSLSA and DLSAs across Nagaland in providing competent legal aid to indigent persons. He encouraged settlement of cases through Lok Adalat. The programme was chaired by Adv. Lhingneinem Hangshing, chief LADC, PDLSA, while vote of thanks was proposed by Khievono Seletsu, chief judicial magistrate‑cum‑secretary PDLSA.
Various departments showcased their services through stalls, including free legal aid, Aadhaar registration and correction, and digital birth certificate registration. Hundreds of beneficiaries were registered by PDLSA. The camp also witnessed active participation from Peren Town Women Welfare Organisation, Peren Town Council, Peren Government Higher Secondary School, Baptist Higher Secondary School and All Saints Higher Secondary School, Peren.
