Minority Affairs Department hosts awareness program in Mokokchung

DIMAPUR: The Directorate of Minority Affairs organized an awareness and sensitisation programme at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung on May 14, aimed at educating and empowering notified minority communities including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis and Jains about government welfare schemes. The initiative focused on equitable access to educational, economic and infrastructure development opportunities.
Welcoming the officials, DC Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, expressed gratitude to the department for launching the initiative. He noted that while such welfare programmes are new to the local population, sustained outreach will help bridge the information gap and uplift the socio-economic fabric of the state.
Delivering the keynote address, joint director of Minority Affairs, Andrew C. Imti, outlined core schemes designed to protect and economically develop religious minorities. He informed that the newly established independent Department of Minority Affairs in Nagaland will now act as the nodal agency, streamlining schemes previously scattered across various departments.
The programme featured detailed presentations from departmental experts. Programme Assistant Khriezotuolie explained financial credit options under the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC). Superintendent Rugozeto Iralu mapped out application pathways for Minority Scholarship schemes, while Project Officer Shalo Khing presented updates on infrastructural and skill growth initiatives under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and PM VIKAS.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the chairperson, Andrew C. Imti.
