The body of a seven-year-old boy from Pangti village, who drowned in the Doyang river on Sunday, was recovered around 2:15 pm on Monday by a joint team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
According to additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Sanis, Benjamin Longkap, the minor boy drowned around 2.30 pm on Sunday while playing football with his friends near the Doyang reservoir.
ADC said the ball reportedly fell into the river, prompting the child to enter the water to retrieve it. However, he never returned, leading his friends to alert his parents. Following intensive search operations, NDRF divers recovered the body from the reservoir. Meanwhile, after the completion of all necessary formalities, the body was handed over to the family members.
