Four unidentified men looted over Rs. 35 lakh from the State Bank of India (SBI) ATM by cutting open the machine in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district in the wee hours of Sunday, police said.
The incident happened at the SBI ATM Mylliembah village under Mawngap Police Station at around 2:20 in the morning.
Before cutting open the machine, the miscreants sprayed black paint on the CCTV cameras to prevent identification. The miscreants cut open the machine using a gas cutter to steal the cash in seven minutes, which was around Rs 35.34 lakh.
Police suspect that the loot had been carried out by a gang of robbers who had committed several such thefts in the past. Police said that an investigation is on in this matter.
