AIZAWL, AUG 24 (PTI): Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday reviewed the progress of several major infrastructure projects across the state at a Mizoram Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation (Mi-PRAGATI) meeting here, an official statement said.
The meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall was attended by Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister K. Sapdanga, PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, Art and Culture Minister C Lalsawivunga, Information Communication and Technology Minister Vanlalthlana, Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar and senior officials.
The meeting focused on project milestones, monsoon-related disruptions and institutional measures required to keep ongoing works on schedule, the statement said.
The Thenzawl Peace City Master Plan was among the key projects reviewed during the meeting.
The proposed planning area covers 85 sq km across six Village Councils in Thenzawl town and surrounding area in Serchhip district, with 51.81 sq km identified as developable land, the statement said.
The initial “Early Bird Projects” include a solid waste management system at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore, development of the Dilpui Lake area at Rs 8 crore and a new Saturday Market at Rs 3 crore, it said.
Another Rs 23 crore has been earmarked for rejuvenation of the Lau river and flood mitigation measures in the old city area, it said.
The Thenzawl peace city project was proposed by the chief minister to decongest Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl, which has seen increasing migration from other parts of the state over the years.
Thenzawl is located about 90 km from Aizawl.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) Conference Centre at Thingsulthliah near Aizawl, being constructed under the Ministry of Tourism’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme at an approved cost of Rs 99.71 crore. It was pointed out in the meeting that the project achieved 80 per cent hill cutting, 90 per cent entry-road cutting and completed 100 per cent exit-road cutting. The project is scheduled to be completed by March 2028.
The meeting reviewed the Mizo Fiber Grid Network (MFGN), which aims to connect all district headquarters through 543 km of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and 82 km of Aerially Deployed Optical Fibre Cable (ADSS).
The project, scheduled to be completed by December this year, was sanctioned at Rs 50 crore under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme and stringing of 24 km of OPGW has been completed, the statement said.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing Rs 60 crore integrated office complex project at Mizoram New Capital Complex (MINECO) or government secretariat complex in Aizawl.
Officials said that 15 per cent of the project has been completed now due to challenges caused by the monsoon.
Progress of the 21-km Pukzing-Silsury road project in Mamit district on the state border with Bangladesh has also been reviewed and 8.38 per cent of the Rs 100.24 crore project has been completed, the statement said.
The meeting discussed compensation claims and monsoon-related delays to ensure that the road project remains on course for completion by January 2028, it said.
