Aizawl, Sep 20 (PTI): Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh has called for greater emphasis on innovation in engineering to strengthen the country’s global technological standing in its bid to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Addressing the Institution of Engineers (India) Industry and Education Excellence Summit and Award in New Delhi on Saturday, he said nations were no longer competing merely for markets but for technological leadership and resilience.
He urged engineers to work towards making Indian engineering synonymous with quality, reliability and trust.
Asserting that merely producing large numbers of engineers was not enough, Singh stressed the need for engineering education to focus on the creative capability of the graduates.
“The engineer of the future must combine technical depth with systems thinking. We should judge engineering education not merely by how many degrees are awarded, but by what those engineers are capable of creating,” he said.
The governor also emphasised that quality and standards must be treated as strategic assets so that India’s technology and talent earn global trust.
Referring to the northeastern region, Singh said that its difficult terrain, ecological sensitivity and strategic location posed complex engineering challenges while also offering opportunities for innovation.
The region could serve as a “living laboratory” for resilient engineering, and he observed that Mizoram has demonstrated the need for terrain-sensitive, climate-resilient and digitally enabled infrastructure, he said.
The governor said India’s long-term future rests firmly in the hands of engineers and called upon them to strive towards realising the vision of Viksit Bharat by the time India celebrates the centenary of its Independence in 2047.
