A two-room chamber for Mokokchung Press Club (MPC) was formally inaugurated by Imtikumzuk Longkumer, parliamentary secretary IPR in the presence of Limawati Longchar, director IPR, Sachin Jaiswal, ADC Mokokchung, Ao Senden leaders and other officials here today at the DPRO building, Mokokchung.
Addressing the gathering, Imtikumzuk said it was a momentous occasion for the press fraternity of Mokokchung and asked them to utilise the facility sensibly for the greater purpose of disseminating information to the masses. Stressing on the importance of media as the fourth pillar of democracy, he said media persons should strive to present information in a responsible and transparent manner since it wielded an enormous power to take the society forward or to destroy it.
He also said that recognition of Mokokchung town as a vibrant town by the outside world was a result of an active media fraternity in the district.
ADC Sachin Jaiswal, in a short speech encouraged the media persons to keep abreast with the changing times with special reference to social media which was fast emerging as a leading source in the dissemination of information and news. He also shared his optimism that the MPC chamber would become a melting pot for sharing ideas within the members and benefit the townsfolk and the society as a whole.
Director IPR, Limawati Longchar expressed his gratitude to MPC for always maintaining mutual relationship with the IPR department and also asked the members to maintain the reputation of being one of the best press clubs in the state.
MPC president, Limalenden Longkumer, in his speech thanked the parliamentary secretary and IPR department for the kind gesture shown to MPC by offering not only accommodation but also basic office amenities to the club. He also thanked Mokokchung DPRO Chuba Walling and his staff and hoped that the camaraderie shared between the department and MPC would continue to grow with the passage of time.
