Mech Kachari Public Organization (MKPO) Nagaland celebrated Aai Sagi, the post-harvest festival of the Mech Kachari tribe at Kachari community ground, Kushiabill-Darogajan village, Dimapur on Friday.
Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) Assam deputy CEM Romeo P Narzary graced the festival as guest of honour.
Extending greetings, Narzary spoke on the importance of protecting the identity, culture, tradition and custom and encouraged the community to protect the languages and cultures by bringing communities together.
“If we do not celebrate our traditions and pass them down to future generations, they will eventually fade away” he said.
Narzary also encouraged the youths acquiring education to study hard with dedication and commitment in order to achieve their goals.
Significance of Aai Sagi was delivered by MKPO general secretary Dharma Dhaj Sonowal and speech was also delivered by various guests.
Various cultural dances were showcased by Gyanswrang cultural troupe, Burkhang cultural society, Naharbari cultural troupe and Gyanswrang students.
The programme was chaired by MKPO general secretary Dharma Dhaj Sonowal, invocation by missionary Robin Mech, welcome address was delivered by MKPO president John Mech and welcome song was presented by Gyanswrang teachers.
Later, vote of thanks was delivered by Lakhi Mech which was followed by Aai sagi feast and second session.
