Minister for health and family welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom sought the people’s participation for all development and for upliftment of the society.
‘’Elected members alone cannot bring any changes in a society unless there is support and cooperation rendered by the people’’, he said.
Pangnyu was speaking on the occasion of a thanks giving programme organised by Phom People’s Council (PPC) on Saturday at PPC hall Longleng in honour of the two legislators from the district.
Pangnyu said that unless there was support, cooperation and guidance from the general public of the state, the elected members alone cannot achieve the goal. While attributing his victory to God, Pangnyu said God never forsakes those that humble themselves before God and come seeking His blessings. Pangnyu also expressed appreciation for his wife Nyathei Phom, who, he said, made tremendous efforts and guided him during the hardest times. The minister also lauded the people of 50 A/C Longleng for enabling him to win with a good margin for the third consecutive term which he said was due to God’s undying love and people’s true faith on him. He also lauded the people of the district for ushering in peaceful coexistence during the election and he expressed hope that this trend would continue.
Maintaining that transparency in any developmental activities in the district would be the main focus for the next five years, Pangnyu said that all work would be undertaken with proper consultation and understanding among the leaders and head of departments of the district for the benefits of the district.
B. S Nganlang Phom MLA from 49 A/C Tamlu, who also spoke on the occasion, thanked Phom People’s Council (PPC) for organising the programme honouring the legislators of the district. He also lauded the different organisations of the district, especially the churches, who took commendable responsibilities towards ensuring peaceful conduct of the election. He also called upon the people of the district to remain united and extend their cooperation to the government for smooth implementation of all developmental works in the district.
Others who spoke on the occasion included DC Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam, PPC president, Chingen Phom, and Pukyung Phom, public leader.
The programme was chaired by Tenchem Phom, vice president PPC, invocation prayer was said by Rev. Beau Phom, Pastor Longleng Town Baptist Church and a special song was presented by Longleng Town Students’ Union. Special prayer invoking Gods’ Blessing upon the legislators was lead by Tialemba Phom, executive secretary, Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) Longleng.
