SHILLONG, Oct 26: Meghalaya’s electorate stands at 21,83,963 following the publication of the draft electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, with 1,80,402 voters deleted from the pre-revision rolls, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari said on Monday.
Announcing the figures at the conclusion of the enumeration phase, Tiwari said the revised electorate represented a net increase of 14,720 voters, or approximately 0.68 per cent, compared with the draft electoral roll published on August 5, 2026.
Of the total 21,83,963 electors, 10,59,743 are male, 11,24,216 female and four belong to the third gender. The revised electoral roll has a gender ratio of 1,061 and an elector-population (EP) ratio of 606, the CEO said.
Explaining the deletions, Tiwari said 81,490 names were removed due to the death of electors, while 45,011 voters were marked absent and 42,532 had shifted from their registered addresses. Another 6,701 names were identified as duplicates, while 4,668 deletions fell under other categories.
Before the launch of SIR 2026, Meghalaya had a total electorate of 23,49,645, including 11,90,898 female voters and seven third-gender electors. At the time the electoral roll was frozen for printing house-to-house enumeration forms, the state recorded a gender ratio of 1,028 and an EP ratio of 651, Tiwari said.
During the enumeration phase, conducted from June 30 to July 29, 2026, a total of 23,49,645 enumeration forms were distributed among electors, of which 21,69,243 forms were received back.
Meanwhile, the CEO urged all electors to verify their names and particulars in the electoral rolls through the Election Commission of India’s Voters’ Services Portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in or the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya’s website at https://ceomeghalaya.nic.in. Digital copies of the electoral rolls can also be downloaded from the CEO Meghalaya website.
Tiwari said eligible citizens whose names had not been included in the electoral roll could apply for inclusion through Form 6, along with the prescribed declaration and supporting documents, wherever applicable. Applications for deletion of names can be submitted through Form 7, while Form 8 can be used for corrections and changes in electoral particulars, including shifting of residence.
Following the publication of the electoral rolls, a special enrolment drive will be undertaken across Meghalaya in accordance with guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India.
Tiwari said special enrolment camps would be organised in all 12 districts of the state to facilitate the registration of eligible citizens, particularly those whose names appeared in the pre-SIR electoral rolls but were not reflected in the revised rolls.
The camps will also assist citizens who have not yet enrolled, first-time and young voters who have attained the qualifying age, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable electors requiring assistance.
The CEO urged eligible citizens to take advantage of the enrolment drive to ensure that their names are included in the electoral rolls and that their voting rights are protected.
