The Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday deliberated on the report of the expert committee on the State Job Reservation Policy, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Friday.
He said the government plans to table the report submitted by Justice (Retd) M.C. Garg during the upcoming budget session of the Meghalaya Assembly.
Sangma said the cabinet has discussed the aspects of the report on the state reservation policy.
“The cabinet has also decided that it will be most appropriate that we will be placing the report of the expert committee during the upcoming budget session,” he told reporters.
The Chief Minister said the government has proposed the dates for the budget session from February 16 to 27 and is awaiting approval of the Governor.
“We have proposed to the Governor and we are waiting for the Governor to call the sitting of the Assembly for the budget session. Once the Governor approves and gives the order, it will be formalised but we have proposed,” he said.
The expert committee, which was constituted in 2023, was tasked to review the current framework of reservation that provides 40 per cent reservation each for Khasi-Jaintia and Garo communities, 5 per cent for other Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, and 15 per cent for the unreserved category.
