SHILLONG, AUG 27 (NPN): The Meghalaya government has activated emergency helplines and control rooms to assist citizens who may have been stranded or affected by the devastating flash floods in Nepal, an official said on Thursday.
The emergency helplines were activated after flash floods along Nepal’s Bhotekoshi River swept through villages in Rasuwa, a district bordering China’s Tibet region, on Wednesday morning.
At least 157 people were confirmed dead and more than 400, including around 133 Indians, were missing following the massive flash flood.
In a public notice, the Executive Director of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) said information is being sought regarding persons from Meghalaya who may be missing or uncontactable in Nepal following the natural disaster.
The SDMA said families, relatives, friends, travel agencies/tour operators and members of the public having information regarding any such person travelling in Nepal are requested to contact a dedicated helpline: 6009924512
Emergency: 112 / 1070 and CM Connect: 1971 with relevant details.
It said the information will be compiled and shared with the concerned authorities for necessary verification and assistance.
