Mokokchung Lotha Students’ Union (MLSU) held its 33rd annual conference on March 31 at Mokokchung town hall under the theme “Lotha etsow jilo myinthung elio ji” (Pride of being a Lotha).
A press release issued by MLSU stated that theme speaker, assistant professor Fazl Ali College, Benrithung Patton asserted that every Lotha Naga should maintain pride and contribute towards Lotha society and to Nagas in general. He also said that government had appropriately named the land of Lothas as “land of plenty”. He also cited the example of Nathan Aben Merry, son of guitarist Ren Merry of Okotsoe village, who has become the first Naga to join the US Marine Force.
MLSU president, Yantsuo S Ezung while delivering welcome address stated that, Lothas should come together as one to promote the spirit of unity, while submerging differences within the Lotha community. Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) president, Libemo M Tsopoe in his greeting also shared that parents should be responsible in leading their children to participate in society, adding that youths too must engage by taking the opportunity and not by reserving their ability.
The program was chaired by convenor of Lotha Fellowship, NU Lumami, Bichumo Ngullie; invocation by women leader Lotha Baptist Church Mokokchung, Grace; welcome song was performed by Khyolamo Tungoe and friends; special song entitled, “hold on together” was presented by Orenboni Odyuo; thanksgiving by Zubenthung Shitiri; while closing prayer was pronounced by Amos Tungoe. The program was followed by a feast.
