MMC warns against illegaluse of domestic LPG cylinders

DIMAPUR

Additional Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), Atsungba Walling, has issued a public notice regarding the unauthorised use of domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg) by certain commercial establishments within Mokokchung town.
According to MMC, such usage violates Clause 3(c) of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000, which clearly stipulates that domestic LPG cylinders are strictly meant for household consumption and prohibited for commercial use. Contravention of this order is punishable under Section 7(1)(a)(ii) of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
In the interest of public safety and legal compliance, the following directives have been issued: All commercial establishments—including hotels, restaurants, bakeries, tea stalls, canteens, and other business entities—within Mokokchung Municipal jurisdiction must use only commercial LPG cylinders supplied by authorised distributors. The use of domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg) for any commercial purpose is strictly prohibited.
Violators will face penal action under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, which may include sealing of the establishment, imposition of fines, cancellation of trade permits, and other measures as deemed appropriate by the competent authority.
