Parliamentary Secretary Labour and employment, skill development and border affairs, Mmhonlumo Kikon said that a serious mission mode approach through skill development could address unemployment issue in the state.
He said this during the departmental officers meeting of department of Employment & Craftsmen Training at its multipurpose hall directorate, Thursday.
Stressing on the need for job orientated course for skill development, Mmhulonlumo said that colleges need to “seriously think” of imparting job orientated course for skill development, at the same time educate the students about the market, dignity to work anywhere in the country and also track the progress of the student’s job placement.
He said that due to over saturation of government jobs in the state there was a need to approach the issue of unemployment through skill development, linking with the larger Skill India goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On supporting entrepreneurs, Mmhulonlumo said that directorate of employment & craft training would be renamed to directorate of employment, craft training and entrepreneurship, in the light of those who are trained under the department to receive support after training.
Mmhulonlumo urged the officers to upgrade their skills and to approach the issue of unemployment with creativity and effectively implement the programmes of the department. He also asked to spread the message of skill development in their respective district and make avenues for graduates which would be “enticing and interesting” for youths.
In his remarks, advisor skill development, Bhairavi Jani advised the gathering to start programme with a small start by checking basic parameters and informed choice for the candidates in order to get a positive end result.
She also asked to track inadequacy and discrepancy of the trainees after training by understanding and bridging the gap between training and job placement.
Power point presentation was presented by GITI DEO/Principal from different districts. Earlier welcome address was delivered by Director E&CT Muthingnyuba Sangtam, vote of thanks by joint director E&CT Alem Longkumer.
The meeting was followed by a discussion with the core team of director, additional director, joint director, deputy director and assistant director, also an interactive session with district officers (DEOs/EOs/principals/VPs) and directorate officers.
