Imphal, Jun 27 (PTI): Manipur Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Meghachandra Singh on Saturday claimed that a recent meeting of Naga MLAs from the state with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the presence of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and others, undermined the authority of the Manipur chief minister’s office.
Addressing a press conference, Singh alleged that the meeting was also attended by the Manipur deputy chief minister Losii Dikho.
However, there was no official confirmation whether Manipur Naga MLAs and Dikho had attended the meeting in New Delhi.
According to officials, Rio and his deputies Yanthungo Patton and T R Zeliang called on Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday, during which they discussed issues related to security, development and inter-state relations with the home minister.
“Chief Minister of Nagaland Shri @Neiphiu_Rio and Deputy Chief Ministers of Nagaland Shri @YanthungoPatton and Shri @TRZeliang called on the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri @AmitShah today,” the office of the Home Minister posted on X.
The Wangkhem MLA said, “If matters concerning Manipur were discussed, people may naturally ask why such engagement was not conducted under the leadership of, or with the direct participation of, the CM.”
Referring to the meeting, Singh asked, “How could a meeting between Manipur Naga MLAs and the Union Home Minister be conducted without the presence of CM Y Khemchand Singh”.
The CLP leader further questioned whether Dikho, who also attended the meeting, had lost confidence in the CM. He also asked how the CM could allow such a meeting, alleging that it undermined the dignity and authority of his office.
