Advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer on Saturday inaugurated the IV/LRC Colony in Dimapur. The ceremony was held at the residence of Colony Council chairman, H. Kashiho Chishi.
Speaking at the event, Longkumer congratulated the residents on the official recognition of the colony, describing it as a significant milestone. He reminded that the new status came with added responsibilities, particularly in maintaining cleanliness, proper waste disposal, and curbing illicit activities such as drug trafficking and bootlegging.
Calling for a safe and inclusive environment, Longkumer urged the community to make IV/LRC Colony “unique” by fostering humility, kindness, peace, and prosperity in business. He emphasized that civic discipline and community cooperation would be key to sustainable development.
Responding to concerns raised by the chairman regarding electricity issues, Longkumer acknowledged the challenges and encouraged the adoption of prepaid metering systems.
He noted that resistance to paying for electricity was common and stressed that prepaid systems would promote accountability and empower citizens to demand improved services.
He assured to take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
On the issue of recurring flooding, Longkumer identified it as a priority concern. He attributed the problem to encroachments obstructing natural drainage and informed that a task force had been constituted to identify those responsible within two months. He warned that illegal structures would be demolished “by hook or crook” to restore proper drainage and appealed for cooperation from colony councils.
Earlier, chairman H. Kashiho Chishi delivered the welcome address, highlighting the colony’s history and persistent electricity problems.
He noted that several electric posts and transformers installed 30 to 40 years ago remained unchanged and had deteriorated. He also raised concerns over frequent flooding and appealed for intervention.
Ward 10 DMC Councillor, Nikali Zhimo, also addressed the gathering and outlined developmental works undertaken in her jurisdiction. She urged the public to remain patient as further projects would be implemented.
The programme was chaired by general secretary Y. Mgonimo Ngullie, with invocation and dedicatory prayer by former chairman Onen. Vote of thanks was delivered by GB Mechung Imchen. Short speeches were also presented by GB Shikuto and others. The “Recognition Order” was formally handed over by the advisor to the Colony chairman.
