Advisor of Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, conducted an inspection of the Principal Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and Excise office in Kiphire on Tuesday.
During his inspection at the ITI, the advisor took stock of the overall infrastructure and functioning of the ITI and noted areas requiring attention. He highlighted the condition of the approach road to the institute, describing it as a matter of concern, and underscored the need to explore alternative solutions to improve access.
“The approach road is of prime importance. We will have to find an alternative solution,” he said. Longkumer further directed the department officials to submit in writing the requirements, so that immediate steps can be taken to address the pending shortcomings, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the institute functions effectively for the benefit of the local youth.
During the interaction, department officials also apprised the advisor of several pressing concerns, including the need for additional manpower such as a driver, night chowkidar, and 4th-grade staff.
They also raised issues such as landslides affecting the premises and the lack of electricity supply. After the inspection of ITI, Longkumer visited the Excise Office in Kiphire, accompanied by Commissioner of Excise, H. Atokhe Aye.
During a brief meeting with the personnel’s posted, Deputy SP of Excise, Kiphire, Tsusekiu Tikhir, expressed optimism that the visit would bring positive change.
He also highlighted challenges faced by the office, pointing that the current building was old, congested, and lacked proper sanitation.
He also mentioned the lack of a departmental vehicle, and informed that a request had been submitted to the Commissioner. Tikhir later informed that the department possesses a quarter with adequate space, and requested to consider that the office be shifted there to ease the current space constraints.
He also shared a summary of the department’s achievements from 2012 to date. In response, Longkumer directed the department to submit a list of requirements in writing, which would be further discussed with the Commissioner.
It may be noted that during the inspection of ITI and Excise office, the advisor was accompanied by Commissioner of Excise, H. Atokhe Aye, Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer, SP Kiphire, Chinese Chakhesang, officials from the department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, including director, Savio Visa, Addl director, Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao, joint director, Alongse Sangtam, Superintendent Excise, K Toshiho Yeptho, and others.
