Moatoshi stresses on empowering women SHGs

Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA, underscored the importance of empowering women Self Help Groups (SHGs) so that they could be self-sufficient.
Speaking at the 3rd edition of The Working Woman Project (TWWP) conclave with SHGs Tuesday at S.M. College Auditorium, Longkumer said his vision to empower women SHGs was not a political gimmick but to ensure that women become financially self-sufficient and have sustainable livelihood. He also assured to provide “bigger” platforms to women SHGs in the days to come.
Releasing a booklet titled, “Achievements under 2 DMR-II A/C 2018-2022”, Longkumer, the local MLA of the 2-Dimapur-II constituency, stressed on the various public projects and funds for the constituency under Local Area Development Plan (LADP). He said, “LADP funds belongs to public and in any situation, I will not misuse it.”
In a keynote address, TTWP director, Sentinaro Yanger highlighted the gathering on the journey of various SHGs registered under TWWP since 2019.
Yanger acknowledged the SHGs for helping the needy within the community, even while facing serious obstacles in functioning the SHGs during COVID pandemic. She then encouraged the SHGs to continue to work together, maintain unity and strengthen each other. Yanger also appreciated and thanked the MLA for his continuous support towards the women SHGs.
During the programme chaired by Aienla Longchar, short speeches were also delivered by central executive board secretary, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Kerei Pfukha and representative from Mercy SHG, Zhetoli Kiba. The programme began with an invocation by Rev. Wati Longkumer and ended with vote of thanks by Tiala.
