KVK Peren, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jalukie, inaugurated “Model Goat village Poilwa Namchi, Pig Village Poilwa and Capacity Building of Vegetable farmers” at Poilwa village on March 31.
A press release by principal scientist and head, KVK Peren, ICAR research complex for NEH region Dr. K. L. Meena informed that, the aim of the programme was to develop a Model Goat and Pig village for breeding purpose to enable supply of good quality goat and piglet and production of vegetable crops round the year for sustainable farming, income generation and livelihood improvement.
The programme was funded under TSP project on “Animal Health Camp/ Awareness programme cum Input Distribution in Peren district of Nagaland”; “NEH Component of Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (IIAB), Ranchi” and “NEH Component of Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bangaluru”.
At the technical session, CTO (Animal Science) Dr. L. Babita Devi highlighted the details about the programme and stressed on important diseases of livestock and prevention. The theme of the programme was shared by ACTO (PBG) Dr. Patu Khate Zeliang, and details on seed production of vegetables crops were elaborated, PS & Head, KVK Peren Dr. K. L. Meena, highlighted the KVK activities of Peren district farmers
Chairman Poilwa village, Rangsam and chairman Poilwa Namchi village, Paunamlung on behalf of the respective village council, expressed gratitude to KVK Peren, for adopting their village for development of model Pig and Goat Village. They also assured to uphold the project by forming Pig and Goat farmers group. Special guest, president Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland I. Daniel Hemang, congratulated both the villages for being selected as Model Pig and Goat village and advised them to work sincerely with full cooperation by following scientific technologies.
Around 79 participants from Poilwa, Poilwa Namchi, Helagem, Poilwa Zangdi village including village council members, youth representative, women representative and officials attended the programme.
Assam Hill Goat and Black Bengal Goat, 1000 kg wheat bran and Maize crush and veterinary medicines (Mineral mixture, Calcicare, Anthelminthics, Vitamins, Antibiotics, Ointments, Potash.) 30 large white Yorkshire piglets, vegetables seeds, hermetic bags were also distributed at the programme.
