DIMAPUR: Two students from Modern College represented Nagaland at a national level consultative meeting on the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), organised by UNICEF YuWaah on September 4, 2026, at its office in New Delhi.
The consultation brought together youth from across India along with officials from UNICEF YuWaah and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Government of India, to discuss and provide perspectives on the design and implementation of the PMIS.
The scheme aims to provide young people with meaningful, real world work experience and exposure to professional environments. The consultation placed youth at the centre of discussions, focusing on their expectations and concerns regarding duration of internships, stipends, age eligibility, modes of internship, accessibility and overall experience.
A significant part of the deliberations centred on ensuring equitable access to internship opportunities for youth in rural, remote and underserved regions. The participation of the two Modern College students provided an opportunity to bring the concerns and perspectives of Nagaland and the Northeast to a national platform.
The consultation served as an important dialogue between young people, government representatives and development stakeholders, reinforcing the importance of youth participation in policy design and decision making.
Modern College expressed pride in its students’ contribution to discussions on the future of youth employment, skills and opportunities in India.
