A day after this newspaper published about a residential area at lower Artang ward, below Nagaland Christian Residential School Mokokchung facing threat of landslide, a team of officials led by SDO (C) Temsuchuba, district administration officials and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel visited the site on Monday.
Home guards, civil defence and SDRF district commandant Mulei Lamniah said they came to know about the impending disaster through the report published in Nagaland Post and from the information received from deputy commissioner’s office.
He admitted that the impending landslide was a matter of great concern, but pointed out that preventing it required a long-term measure, which again could be taken up only after a thorough investigation.
The affected residents apprised the visiting team of the situation as it unfolded. They said they had first noticed the slide around 8 pm on Sunday, and thereafter the landmass was sliding gradually, forcing them to take away their belongings.
They expressed apprehension over the fate of the power grid electric tower, should there be a massive landslide.
