Mokokchung team uniforms for State Junior Athletics C’ship unveiled

DIMAPUR, SEP 8 (NPN)

Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, officially unveiled the team track suits and field uniforms of Mokokchung district athletes on September 8 at his office in the presence of SDO (Civil), Temsuchuba.
The team was led by president, Rongsentoshi Jamir and general secretary, Imchatsung, along with members of Mokokchung Athletics. A total of 20 athletes, comprising 15 boys and 5 girls, have been selected to represent Mokokchung district. The contingent will depart for Kohima on September 9 to participate in the 2nd Nagaland Junior Athletics Championship 2025, scheduled to be held on September 10 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium.
During the launch, Ajit Kumar Verma addressed the participants and said, “You are going to represent the district that is the pride of the district.” He mentioned that Mokokchung teams have been participating in previous events and have achieved good results, with some athletes even attaining medals and representing the district at higher levels. Extending his best wishes, he told the participants, “All the best to all of you as a team, as a family. Whether you win or lose, even if you are not able to bring back medals, it is okay. What matters is that you give your best and perform well.”
The DC further emphasized that getting the medals is also important, but the greater value lies in teamwork as a family and unity along with the coach, manager and officials. He added that after the competition, the participants are welcome to come forward and discuss further with the administration if needed.
In the U-14 category, the selected athletes are: Lanutemjen Kichu and Arenlong Tzudir in Triathlon (A) along with Naromenla; Lanuroen Jamir and Sungjemmongla Jamir in Triathlon (B); and Imliwar Jamir, Tsukjenlemba Pongen and Moakala in Triathlon (C).
In the U-16 category, Imnungba (60m), Imjungsunep Pongen (600m), Sentizulu Pongen (High Jump), Imnungba (Long Jump), and Lemba Angh (Shotput) will represent the boys. For the girls, Meyijung T. Jamir will compete in both the 60m and 600m events.
In the U-18 category, the boys’ events will feature Tiasunep (100m), Toshiwapang Longkumer (200m), Lanusucha (400m), Taliimeim Jamir (1000m), Ikagho (High Jump and Long Jump), and Sentioenen Jamir (Shotput). The girls’ team will be represented by Imnasenla, who will participate in both the 100m and 200m events.
The association congratulated all the selected athletes who earlier took part in the Mokokchung District Junior Athletics Meet 2025.
The management team for the championship will be led by president of Mokokchung Athletics Association, Rongsentoshi Jamir, who will serve as the overall in-charge. Assisting him are team manager Furmayang Pongener and coach Nukshikala Jamir.
In preparation for the event, a two-day coaching camp was held on September 5 and 6 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, where the selected athletes were given training and guidance ahead of their participation in Kohima.
