Mokokchung youth rally against drugs

DIMAPUR: In observance of World No Drug Day 2026, a massive youth awareness rally and wellness programme was organised in Mokokchung on June 30, 2026 by the Rajyoga Education & Research Foundation (RERF), a sister organisation of the Brahma Kumaris, in collaboration with the 12 Assam Rifles under the theme “Drug Abuse Prevention & Value based Living.”
According to DIPR report, the formal programme, held at the Assam Rifles Ground, was graced by Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, as chief guest. In his address, the DC expressed gratitude to the organisers, noting the relevance of the initiative to the district and its alignment with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. He highlighted the severe medical and social impacts of substance abuse and called for collective efforts involving families, educational institutions and civil society organisations to reduce demand for drugs through value based education.
Lt. Col. Surender Singh spoke on the destructive impact of drugs on families, society and the nation, while Dr. Swapan Gupta, senior neurologist and narcotics specialist from New Delhi, shared insights into the medical and psychological trauma caused by substance abuse. Before conclusion of the assembly, participants collectively took the Drug Free Pledge.
The awareness rally was flagged off by the DC from the Assam Rifles Ground. Participants marched through the town and culminated at Police Point near Ao Baptist Church, sending a strong message against substance abuse and promoting healthy, value based lifestyles among citizens.
