Mon District hosts first-ever Junior Athletics Meet

DIMAPUR

Mon District Athletics Association (MDAA), under the aegis of the Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA), conducted its first-ever Mon Junior Athletics Meet 2025 at the Public Ground in Mon Town on August 30.
The event witnessed a total of 81 young athletes, 26 girls and 55 boys competing across three categories: Under-14, Under-16, and Under-18. The meet aimed at identifying and nurturing young talents from across the district, many of whom had travelled long distances to participate.
In his welcome address, president, MDAA, Phongwang Konyak commended the determination and enthusiasm of the young athletes, encouraging them to chase their dreams and strive for excellence in the field of sports. “It is my desire to see Mon athletes competing and excelling in higher-level competitions,” he stated.
The day-long competition featured various track and field events. The Under-14 category competed in Triathlon (B) and (C) events, while the Under-16 and Under-18 athletes participated in individual track events, high jump, and long jump. Winners will be shortlisted and will get a chance to represent the district during the 2nd Nagaland Junior Athletics Meet which is scheduled to be held on 10th September 2025 at Kohima.
Senior Join Secretary of NAA and a Federation State Technical Official and secretary of MDAA, Chingkap Konyak expressed gratitude to all participants, supporters, and especially the Nagaland Athletics Association for selecting Mon as the venue. He acknowledged the challenges faced by local athletes in getting exposure and appreciated NAA’s efforts in bringing such opportunities to the district. He also extended special thanks to the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) for their pivotal role in both the formation of MDAA and the successful conduct of the event. The event was conducted under the supervision of senior joint secretary, NAA, Chingshao Konyak.
