Mon selected as ‘Aspirational Agricultural District’ under PMDDKY

DIMAPUR, SEP 27 (NPN)

Mon district is among the “100 Aspirational Agricultural Districts” selected by the Centre, the Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, informed in a letter to Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir.
In its union budget 2025-26, the Centre had announced to develop “100 Aspirational Agricultural Districts” under Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) for a period of six years beginning with 2025-26. Accordingly, the Union Cabinet has approved PMDDKY on July 16, 2025. Union minister disclosed that the formal launch of the PMDDKY was likely to be held in October, 2025. In this connection, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said 100 agriculture agricultural districts have been identified based on three key indicators of low crop productivity, low cropping intensity, and less short term credit disbursement.
Union minister said that PMDDKY aims to enhance agricultural productivity, increase adoption of crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices, augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, improve irrigation facilities and facilitate availability of long-term and short-term credit. He said the scheme would proactively address all the gaps identified in selected districts by converging the existing schemes of Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) and other allied Ministries/Departments and also in partnership with the States.
Further, Chouhan informed that there would be committees formed at district, state and national level for effective planning, implementation and monitoring. He added that performance of the scheme in the district would be monitored through a dashboard with defined Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
In this regard, the union minister expressed hope that the leadership of Supongmeren Jamir would enable the district authorities and officials under his jurisdiction for the smooth implementation of PMDDKY, within the State.
The scheme is designed to catalyse growth in 100 agri-districts through saturation-based convergence of 36 Central schemes across 11 Ministries, with an annual outlay of Rs.24,000 crore. The convergence will also include state schemes and local partnerships with the private sector.
