The dedicatory programme for the newly constructed Mon Town Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) building was held on October 28 at the new facility.
The programme began with an invocation and dedicatory prayer offered by Bangchem Phom, Vaccinator. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Mon, Dr. Supongmenla Walling, delivered the welcome address and shared the background of the UPHC, which was launched on January 27, 2025, and had been functioning from a rented building in Zaklom Ward until now.
Dr. Walling expressed appreciation to the contractor for constructing the new building as per prescribed standards and informed that the UPHC would function as a daycare health facility. The centre will be staffed by one dentist, one laboratory technician, one pharmacist, two staff nurses and two ANMs. In the absence of a General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO), the dentist will oversee both dental and general cases, including maternal and child health services. She also informed that 20 newly appointed ASHAs in Mon Town, along with the nursing team, will track immunization and ANC coverage across all wards. The UPHC staff will conduct outreach mini-camps to bring essential healthcare services closer to residents and spread awareness about the facility.
Special guest Dr. Temsu Longchar, joint director, Department of Health and Family Welfare, commended the quality of work and thanked the Forest Department for providing land for the project. He emphasized the importance of community ownership and noted that Mon Town previously had only one District Hospital with no intermediary health unit. He highlighted that 80% of diseases are preventable and urged ASHAs and UPHC staff to serve with dedication. NUHM consultant Aotemsu Ozukum spoke on the objectives of the National Urban Health Mission and shared the collaborative efforts that led to the establishment of the UPHC. Contractor Manlip Konyak and All Wards Union chairman Y. Pongba expressed appreciation to the department and reaffirmed community support for improving urban health services. Dr. Wanmai Konyak, dentist, UPHC Mon, delivered the vote of thanks and acknowledged the contributions of all stakeholders. He appealed to community leaders for continued partnership in promoting health and well-being in Mon Town.
