A monolith commemorating legendary Lotha warrior Ranphan Jami, remembered for slaying a tiger that killed nine women in a single day, was dedicated at Jonsü, Longla village on June 5. The programme was organised by Jamitsü Ekhüng, marking the culmination of years of research by the Jami clan to preserve the history of their ancestor, whose resting place is believed to be at the site. The monolith was dedicated by Rev. A. Khyolamo Jami, Senior Pastor of Purana Bazar Lotha Baptist Church, while Y. Motsuthung Jami, chairman of Jamitsü Ekhüng, unveiled it and read the inscription honouring Ranphan Jami’s bravery. Speaking at the event, Nrio Jami (80) said Ranphan Jami had been laid to rest at the site centuries ago. He expressed joy that the long-cherished dream of erecting a memorial had finally been realised, noting that the warrior continues to be remembered across the Lotha community through the tale passed down from generation to generation. He acknowledged the collective efforts of the Jami family, Longla village and the land donor in making the project a success, and invited citizens to visit the memorial site to help disseminate the history of Ranphan Jami.
Head GB of Longla Village Council, Phyonphyamo Ngullie, recalled that the site had long been revered as Ranphan’s graveyard and served as a landmark during hunting expeditions in earlier times. Head GB of Nrung Longidang Village Council, Thungsemo Ngullie, also affirmed that the site was the resting place of the legendary warrior. A member of the Longla Village Council appreciated the Jami clan for taking the initiative to preserve the historic site, noting that earlier attempts by villagers had not materialised. He said the memorial would serve as a blessing to the Lotha community.
Landowner Vanthungo said the memorial stone was erected with the consent of his family and the Jami clan, urging the public to treat the site as their own property and help maintain its beauty.
