The Montfort School, Baghty, brought the curtains down on its much-anticipated Monfest Volleyball Tournament with a spirited closing ceremony on April 28. The event drew enthusiastic participation from students, educators and local residents, marking a memorable day for the Baghty Valley.
In the men’s volleyball, Makharung Village emerged as the champions, with Soku Village as runners-up.
In the women’s volleyball, EAC Colony clinched the title, while Makharung Village finished second.
Montfort School Students’ Teams award was bagged by Thunderstorm Team with Ten Stars as runners-up.
In the individual achievements, outstanding players were recognized for their performances: Tumchobemo Enni (Makharung Village); Liyingbeni Rangthang (EAC Colony); and Zarenthung Odyuo (Thunderstorm Team).
The guest of honour, Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Bhandari, Rev. Fr. George Anthony, delivered an inspiring speech urging students to balance academics with sports. He highlighted the growing importance of physical fitness for both personal well-being and national progress, while commending Montfort School’s leadership for fostering unity and harmony through the event.
The programme opened with a welcome address by principal M.K. Devassy, who expressed gratitude to all contributors for ensuring the success of the tournament. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing young talent and strengthening community bonds.
A brief tournament report was presented by assistant teacher Mhonchan Murry, who noted the competitive spirit and enthusiastic participation that defined the matches.
