More condemn Aug 16 killing

More organisations have come out to condemn the coldblooded murder of “major” Toishe Yeptho of NSCN (I-M) at his residence at Purana Bazaar ‘B’ here on August 16.

NTC: In a statement issued by its president Toniho Yepthomi and general secretary Nribemo Ngullie, Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) said it was shocked to learn about the brutal and coldblooded assassination of Toishe Yeptho in the presence of his family members.

Mentioning that taking law in one’s hand and killing fellow brother without reservation was cowardly act, the council strongly condemned the killing. It said life could be given only by God and taking one’s own image of life was barbaric and an act of beast.

According to the NTC, peace was seemingly dawning, but the ghastly killing of the son of the soil disturbed the peaceful atmosphere and tranquillity of the land. Therefore, it urged law enforcing agencies to take up the case with all seriousness and bring the culprit to book at all cost so that the hard-earned peaceful atmosphere of the land was restored.

The council also conveyed its sincere condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed to Almighty God to grant them courage to withstand in this time of inconsolable grief and sadness.

NH: Naga Hoho (NH) too strongly condemned the “dastardly act” of killing Toishe in front of his wife and children. It said all forms of killings in the form of personal rivalry or factional was not at all expected by people at this crucial moment when they were yearning for peace and political settlement.

The organisation prayed and fervently appealed to all Naga national groups not to allow escalation of another nightmare through such occurrence.

As the Naga political scenario becomes fluid where confusion and differences of ideologies were looming in the minds of the people, NH said every sensible citizen needed to be vigilant as there would be elements to bring unrest and disunity among Nagas.

It conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that God the Almighty grant them solace at this moment of grave and sorrow.

DDGBA: Strongly condemning the killing, Dimapur District GBs’ Association (DDGBA)has urged all “sensible” Naga public to join the chorus of condemnation and also entreated authorities to book the perpetrators at the earliest and bring them to justice.

According to its president Khehovi V Chophi and secretary for publicity & information R Chankgkum, whatever could be the reason, the killing was not justified the killing. They said shooting and snatching away one person’s precious life in front of his loved ones and leaving behind a traumatised and wailing widow and orphaned children was too unbecoming of a civilised world.

The association also said such actions did not bode well for the Nagas when talks were going on with Government of India.

While praying for the departed soul to rest in peace, DDGBA also invoked God’s love to provide solace for the family members.
