More orgs oppose nomination to ULBs

Tizit town council (TTC) candidates of 2017 and Chi and Mon Landowners’ Association (CMLOA) have joined others in opposing the state government’s decision to nominate members to urban local bodies (ULBs) for an interim period. In a letter submitted to the DC Mon through ADC Tizit, the TTC candidates of 2017 K Teijat Wangnao (industry ward), A Mihjat Wangnao (medical ward), Pumen Konyak (Pongma ward) and Penjoak Konyak (Pentom ward) questioned who would repay the huge amount spent by the candidates during the ULB election?

The signatories said that after much deliberation they have decided to oppose the government notification. They also said that no appointment be made until and unless the votes from the ballot boxes of the candidates were counted. Failing to intervene, the signatories cautioned that they would be forced “to take any course of action in the near future. “

CMLOA: Chi and Mon Landowners’ Association (CMLOA) CMLOA president O Kamzei Konyak and general secretary Loipang Konyak, in a letter addressed to the DC Mon, stated that the 1964 agreement signed between the landowner villages of Mon town (Chi & Mon) and the government of Nagaland stood only in paper and was yet to be implemented.

The association numerous appeal letters and memorandums have been submitted to the competent authority, but it was yet to receive response from the government till date.

Therefore, the signatories said that they were left with no option, but compel to boycott the last election to the Mon Town Council through a legal notice.

In the light of the above, CMLOA has urged the DC Mon to keep in abeyance the task of constituting advisory council to the MTC to avoid any public outcry.
