The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic zeal and ceremonial dignity across Nagaland, with events held at district headquarters and sub-divisional towns reflecting unity, cultural pride, and civic responsibility.
Raj Bhavan: The 79th Independence Day was observed at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, with a ceremonial programme marked by patriotic spirit and official dignity. Deputy Secretary to the Governor, Dziesekuolie Kire took the Rashtriya Salute on behalf of the Governor during the formal celebration held at the Raj Bhavan premises. The event was attended by officials and staff of the Governor’s Secretariat.
Niuland: At Niuland Parade Ground, personnel of the 155 Bn CRPF participated in the ceremonial parade, saluting the National Flag in honour of the occasion.
Changtongya: In Changtongya Sub-Division, Mokokchung district, SDO (Civil) Nukshimatong graced the celebration as chief guest. He hoisted the National Flag, received the salute from OC Police Station Changtongya, and delivered the Independence Day address. Students of St. John School rendered the National Anthem.
Jakhama: At Jakhama, the celebration was held at the SDO (Civil)’s Office premises with Sub-Divisional Officer Vineikho Tetso as chief guest. He unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute from the 12th IR contingent led by UBI Joseph Zeliang. Students of Government High School, Jakhama sang the National Anthem. The programme was chaired by Dr. Menguzenuo Chielie and attended by officials, Dobashis, and students.
Seyochung Headquarters: Seyochung Headquarters, Kiphire district, marked the day at the public ground with ADC James T. Khulu Tikhir as chief guest. He hoisted the National Flag, delivered the address, and took the Rashtriya salute from three parade contingents led by Nikihe Chishe and Hav. Major Shetoho Yeptho. Cultural highlights included “AhouAhou” by Sulila, patriotic songs choreographed by Litongla, and a drill display by St. Mary’s High School. The Sumi Women Community also performed. Exhibition stalls by the Department of Agriculture, Medical Team, and ten NGOs were inaugurated. The event witnessed participation from officials, public leaders, and community representatives.
Chen Town: In Chen Town, Mon district, Head DB K. Yaoh Konyak hoisted the National Flag at the SDO (Civil) Office Compound, with Village Guard personnel and residents in attendance.
Monyakshu Sub-Division: At Monyakshu Sub-Division, Mon district, SDO C. Wangan served as special guest, hoisting the National Flag and taking the Rashtriya salute from Village Guards. The programme was attended by government employees, police, DBs, GBs, and the public, and concluded with a community feast hosted by the SDO.
NCC Group Kohima: National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Kohima observed the day with a flag hoisting ceremony led by Group Commander and commanding officers of 1 Nagaland Air Squadron (Dimapur), 24 Nagaland Battalion (Kohima), and 25 Nagaland Battalion (Mokokchung).
Nagaland University, Lumami: Nagaland University held a formal programme with Vice Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik as chief guest. He recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the impact of partition, while highlighting the uniqueness of Indian democracy. He also spoke on Nagaland’s development, including the state’s first medical college and the inauguration of three new university buildings. Prof. Patnaik expressed hope that NU would become a top institution in the future.
CoVS&AH: College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Jalukie celebrated Independence Day with staff and students participating in the programme.
Tribute to Havilder Mering Ao (Retd.): Dr. M. Chuba Ao, national vice president, BJP, and chairman, MARCOFED, visited Sungratsu village, Mokokchung, to honour Havilder Mering Ao, a 105-year-old veteran of the 3rd Assam Rifles. Dr. Ao presented the National Flag to the centenarian, who was awarded the Shaurya Chakra in 1960 by president Dr. Rajendra Prasad. The ceremony also honoured his wife, Sentiyangla Ao, aged 100. Havilder Mering Ao’s legacy continues to inspire the people of Nagaland.
VWF Dimapur: Vivekananda Welfare Foundation (VWF), Dimapur in collaboration with Mahila Patanjali Yog Samiti, celebrated Independence Day at its office premises. Founder Niranjan Saha spoke on Swami Vivekananda’s influence on India’s freedom movement and encouraged youth to adopt yoga for strength and character building.
LCD: Lions Club of Dimapur (LCD) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and community outreach at its club premises in Nepali Bosti, under the chairmanship of Lion Jeetu Alani.
Club president Lion Sanjay Jaiswal hoisted the National Flag in the presence of special guest Lion Neena Dutta, VDG-1, alongside members of Lions Club of Dimapur Blue Venda, Elite, and Leo Club of Dimapur.
As part of the celebration, club members visited the Deaf Biblical Ministry at Naharbari, and distributed dry rations and essential items to 70 students. Rev. Yanger Walling, in-charge of the Ministry, extended blessings to the club for their gesture of solidarity and compassion.
NPP Nagaland: National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland State Unit celebrated the 79th Independence Day at its State Headquarters in Dimapur with dignity and unity.
Vice president K. James Vizo unfurled the National Flag on behalf of the State Unit, followed by the singing of the National Anthem in solemn reverence.
In his address, Vizo urged party members to honour the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters through honest service to the people. He reaffirmed NPP’s commitment to protecting the rights of all communities, especially minorities, and promoting equitable development. He emphasized unity, discipline, and mutual respect as the foundation of a strong political movement.
General Secretary (IPR & Spokesperson) Ranjit Singhvi spoke on the importance of coordination and discipline within the party, urging all units to work in harmony to achieve common goals.
State Secretary Khehoshe Sema reminded members to seek God’s guidance in all endeavours and to uphold truth, justice, and service in both political and personal life.
