Various institutions across Nagaland observed the 11th International Yoga Day (IDY) on June 21 under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
At Tuensang, Sao Chang College in collaboration with Chang Sports Association held the programme at Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground. The session was led by yoga instructor Yemjong BN Chang, who guided 36 participants, including students, faculty and community members, through asanas and breathing exercises.
The event, organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college, aimed to promote holistic wellness and environmental harmony. IQAC coordinator, A Chubasangla Chang, in her closing remarks, thanked all involved and encouraged yoga practice for better physical and mental health.
ICFAI University Nagaland hosted a “Yoga Sangam” on campus. Vice Chancellor Prof. Saundarjya Borbora and Dr. Sumanta Mahapatra addressed the students, highlighting yoga’s role in harmony and wellness.
St. John School, Kiusam Town, also celebrated the day with a yoga session. Rev. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu explained the meaning of “yoga”—derived from the Sanskrit word yuj, meaning “to unite”—and emphasised the importance of balance between body, mind, and spirit. Students from various classes participated in learning basic asanas. The SAI-STC Centre in Dimapur held a yoga programme in collaboration with Mera Yuva Bharat to promote healthy habits among youth through yoga practice.
