More support demand for adequate manpower at CHC Shamator

Several organisations have come forward and extended support to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Shamator and Joint Co-Ordination Committee (JCC) demand for adequate manpower and necessary infrastructure at Community Health Centre (CHC) Shamator.

CVSU: Chassir Village Students’ Union (CVSU) while extending support to the memorandum submitted by JCC said the lone CHC Shamator which caters to the medical needs of entire rural populace of Shamator area has been running without doctor for months, leading to deprivation of basic health facilities.

In a press release, CVSU president, Zutphong and advisor, S Tomukam said lives of innocent people in Sahamator area has been put to danger due to the surge of the second wave of COVID-19 and detection of positive cases in the area. The union then hoped that the government would address the “genuine demand” at the earliest. 

11WU: 11 Ward Union Shamator Town while extending support to the demand by JCC said citizens of Shamator town and its area have been left neglected, deprived and discriminated of their basic medical necessities and requirements by the successive government and continues to do so even during a pandemic. 

In a press release, 11 ward union president, Yansomong and general secretary, Tsurito said such step-motherly treatment must be immediately stopped and sense of public health safety, security and oneness must be installed back.

The union also pointed out that Guwahati High Court on May 24, 2021 had ordered the state government to post required number of doctors and other workforce to CHC Shamator within five days. However, the union said that no tangible sign of compliance of the court direction has been observed. 

MSU: Muleangkiur Students’ Union has extended support to JCC demand and expressed hope that it would receive a positive response from the government. 

In a press release, MSU president, T Shophu also cautioned the government to stop its discriminatory attitude against regions particularly from the far flung areas of Eastern Nagaland, thereby putting the lives of the common people at stake.

Stating that the ongoing pandemic calls for a major revamping of the medical facilities in the state, MSU said while the government has commenced in a war footing to equip and address this issue in other districts, the lone CHC at Shamator, catering to the needs of thousands, have been rejected.

In this regard, the union has urged the government to look into the matter at the earliest.
