Mothers Care: Daily wage earners turn entrepreneurs

Correspondent

In a heartwarming story of resilience and determination, a group of four daily wage-earning mothers has defied the odds by venturing into entrepreneurship. Making sticky rice roti (or Kemenya roti in Angami), a popular afternoon tea-time snack made of sticky rice, these mothers have open a stall at Kisama Naga Heritage Village.

Facing the challenge of financial instability, these women have found a unique way to sustain their families by selling hand-made rotis. Hailing from Sechü-Zubza, Kidima, and Jakahma, the group popularly known as “Mothers Care” is spearheaded by Neichümenuo Sechü (62).

Speaking with Nagaland Post, Neichümenuo said when she learned about the opportunity to set up a stall at the Hornbill Festival, she rallied her friends and two kids and established the group.

Other members of the team include Akhoü Sechü, Rovihuü Sechü, Kevizenuo Zhünyü, Keneileno Rote, Neibano Sophie, Vitomenuo Rhatsu, and Vitoyngulie. These mothers, daily wage earners facing uncertainties of irregular employment, came together with a shared goal– to secure a stable income for their families, even if it was for 10 days.

They set up stall close to the food park at the Kisama Heritage Village, utilising natural boulders arranged as tables and seats, providing a comfortable space for customers to enjoy their rotis. Other than the sticky rice roti, they are also selling lemon tea, rosella tea, ginger ale, chai, galho, etc.
