Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) and Entertainment Enterprise Nagaland (3E Nagaland) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch the Kohima Premier League in Kohima during an event at 2K hotel, here on Thursday.
This initiative was aimed at promoting local talent and entities affiliated with the KDFA, including the Kohima District Football Referees Association (KDFRA) and the Football Licensed Coaches of Kohima District (FLCoKD).
The MoU, signed by KDFA president Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome and 3E Nagaland managing director Kethosituo Elvis Mepfhüo, was witnessed by officials from both KDFA and 3E.
The league will be organized under the aegis of KDFA while management will be done by 3E Nagaland, with a close coordination between the KDFA and the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) to schedule the league within the NFA calendar.
During the signing, Yhome described it as a historic day for Kohima’s football community.
He expressed hope that the tournament would significantly promote football in the district and acknowledged 3E’s efforts to reintroduce the league system in the state capital after a long hiatus.
Mepfhüo, announced that the Kohima Premier League would feature 10 teams competing in a round-robin format to determine the league champion and the top four teams that will compete for the league cup. He announced that slots would be given to various wards and areas within the district.
The slots will be offered to bidders through auction. He also mentioned that ticket sales for league stages would be distributed equally among the teams, and the competition would include awards for the league champion, league cup winner, and individual performances.
Each team may include up to 25 players, with a provision to include five players from outside the district. The tournament is tentatively scheduled for May at the IG Stadium, Kohima, he informed.
