DIMAPUR, SEP 7 (NPN): In a historic development for Naga Wrestling, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to host the UWW World Belt Wrestling Championship 2026, featuring Alysh Wrestling and Naga Wrestling. The agreement was formalized on September 6 at Issyk-Kul by the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF), World Alysh Federation (WAF) and Asian Alysh Federation (AAF).
In a press release issued by NWA informed that India has been proposed as the host country for the prestigious championship, which is tentatively scheduled to take place from December 14–19, 2026. This landmark agreement marks a significant step in bringing the global wrestling event to India and promoting Naga Wrestling on the international stage.
The Nagaland Wrestling team, led by NWA president Vivolie Kezo under the aegis of AITWPF, is currently in Kyrgyzstan to participate in the 6th World Nomad Games 2026. On September 5, Naga Wrestling was officially demonstrated at Kyrgyz Gorge as part of the Demonstration Games category of the Nomad Games. The team is scheduled to return to Nagaland on October 8, 2026.
